How to Get Started with Therapy
Getting started with Libra Virtual Care is simple and supportive. Follow these five easy steps to connect with a weight-inclusive therapist who meets your needs.
1
Share Location and Insurance
To match you with a therapist, we need to know what state you’ll be in for sessions and whether you plan to use insurance. This helps us determine clinician availability based on your coverage.
4
Complete Intake Forms
We’ll send intake forms after scheduling. While not required for the consult, completing them early allows our team to check your insurance benefits and helps your therapist prepare for your care.
2
Get Matched Thoughtfully
We’ll match you with a therapist based on your preferences and availability, ensuring the best possible fit for your care and goals.
3
Book a Free Consultation
Use our online calendar to schedule a free 15-minute consultation to ask questions and connect with your therapist.
5
Begin Your Therapy Journey
You’ll schedule your first session during the consultation. Together, you will create a personalized plan to support your goals.
Check Your Connection
Videostreaming takes a lot of bandwidth; ensure you have a fast internet connection.
Consider Your Device
Using a device with a larger screen can help you feel more connected and engaged during your session.

Adjust Your Space
Choose a quiet, private space where you feel comfortable and free from distractions.
Position Your Camera
Set your camera at eye level in a well-lit area to help create a more natural and engaging session.

How do I get started? It's easy! Email intake@libravirtualcare.com with your name, contact information, insurance, state that therapy will take place, and any information you would like to share. If you already have a therapist you would like to work with, we do our best to set you up with them. In the case a therapist is not a right fit (e.g., not in-network with your insurance or not licensed in your state) or is unavailable, we work with you to find the right fit. Once your therapist is identified, your information will be set up within the client portal, and intake documents will be sent electronically. You will also work with your therapist to set up an initial consultation. After you have completed the intake documents, someone from our team will do a benefits check so that information on the cost of therapy can be discussed in the consultation. Most people schedule their initial assessment during the consultation. Depending on your symptoms and goals you discussed in the consultation, your therapist may select clinical questionnaires to fill out prior to the assessment. Your therapist will review these and use the information when making a clinical assessment. During the initial assessment, expect the appointment to last 90 minutes. At the end, you and your therapist will discuss goals, the approach you will use, frequency of sessions and next steps. From there, you will schedule your first therapy session!

I don't see my state listed. Can I still work with one of your therapists?Unfortunately, not at this time. In keeping with virtual best practices, our clinicians only work with clients who are in states where they are licensed. There may be occasions in which a person lives near another state, and has the ability to do therapy from the state of licensure. If you have questions, please email intake@libravirtualcare.com. Some of our clinicians may qualify for the Counseling Compact which is expected to begin operations in mid-2025 which will allow them to practice therapy with a client who lives in any of the compact states. Click here to learn more about the Counseling Compact or PsyPact.

Do I need a referral from a physician to get started?Nope! During the initial assessment, your clinician will gather information that helps them assess medical and psychiatric stability and the intensity or severity of symptoms. In some instances, it is necessary to coordinate care with a physician to best support you or your loved one, but that information is not needed up front.
-
Could I do in-office appointments with my therapists? Our clinicians work remotely, and not in a group office setting. Therefore, they would be unable to offer in-person sessions. If you are concerned about virtual therapy, please refer to our Getting Started page or discuss any questions with your therapist or at intake.
